Range Reports, Visits, etc
Hello, I live in EFP and am curious about regulations pertaining to shooting on your own property out here. I am off 409 near the EBR border and just bought a house on 7.5 acres. I am thinking of making my own range but was curious to any ordinances state or local that may get in the way. I searched and found a couple posts but nothing too specific. My property backs up to company forest land(GP I believe). I plan on building a fairly beefy berm and shooting towards there. I believe I could set up a 100yd range maybe 200yd with no problem. It looks from Google earth that there is no buildings within 200yds or so and closest road is on that company land at about 100yds. Picture added for reference. My plan was to use 4X4X10's to make a beefy backstop the place dirt in front of it. Any opinions?
Over the weekend I went to Nick's Shooting Range in Garyville. It was my first trip to a public rifle range (just done longarms on private land and pistols at ranges in the burbs) and had a great time. The staff were all friendly and easy to work with even though it was pretty packed through most of the afternoon. (Sunday was a perfect day for shooting). I'll definitely be going back, as it is only a short drive out of New Orleans. I found their info here: http://www.nicksshootingrange.com/
Ranges are closed until maintenance is complete. Start Zero-Dark-Thirty and usually finished by 10:00 or so. Pistol range closed 10:00 - 11:30 for Membership Safety Course 7.62mm
While berms are being raised 10'. Probably several weeks or more (or maybe more than that - the parish is doing the work). Still GTG on the weekend hours.
Went to Sherburne WMA for 5 hours Monday afternoon with a good buddy. The place is in great shape and the road from US 190 is not nearly as wash-boarded as in the past. Only problem is, of course, is that irresponsible shot-gunners/riflemen are blowing apart the wooden target stands. Might want to prepare to bring your own. At the range, there are paired 2-inch PVC inserts for legs and appear to be an approximate average of 45-inches on center. Allow a little wiggle room for your uprights, which should be 5-6 feet high. A target backing of 48-inches by 24-inches, quarter-inch plywood would work. I would recommend 48x36 of 3/8 inch plywood, however, for sturdiness and longevity. The PVC inserts are 2-inch and will accept 2x2 upright boards or 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 PVC. The inserts (10 or 12 pairs?) or concreted into "sidewalks" at 25 yards, 50 yards and 100 yards. Please don't fill the insert holes with shotgun shells to level your stands. Clods of dirt will do nicely and will...
I want to see if it would be worth building an outdoor range, with covered lines and benches, possible location is just south of inter coastal between port Allen and brusly. proposing a 25 yd pistol range, 100 yard rifle range and maybe a 600 yard range and skeet range. a fair range fee would support upkeep and expansion of a small shop for targets and ammo etc. if businesses supports it, an in house gunsmith would come later on. at first customers would bring there own targets and ammo. all activity would be overseen by a range master, with a cease fire every so often to go down range. ideas and input welcome, I just want to know if there's enough shooters to support this thing, I'm tired of driving out of town to get on a good rifle range!
I took my son to Honey Island back in February. He had a blast and said he really enjoyed shooting. Yesterday, though, I asked if he wanted to go again this weekend and he told me, "No, because it's too loud." He didn't complain about it being loud when we went. I had ear plugs in his ears and ear muffs on top of those. Is there anything you guys can recommend for him?
Who here is a member? I am sending in an application today. I should have done it a long time ago. How limited is membership? Thank you, Charles
Hey guys, I just wanted to announce that KPD will be constructing a new firing range / training facility in Killian. It will be a police range but open to the public on some weekends every month. The address isn't announced yet but it will be near the old airstrip. The facilities of the range will be: 25 yard gravel pistol range 50 yard rifle range Covered line @ 50 yards More facilities will be dependent on fundraising efforts by KPD. I'm going to hold a meeting at the Killian town hall late march, open to the public, to address concerns and give a presentation on the project. Everyone is welcome to come. I will update periodically.
Weather permitting, I'm planning on taking 2-4 friends out to honey island this saturday to teach them to shoot. Having not been to the range before, I just wanted to ask a couple questions before going out there. Would there be any issue with 3 of them hanging back behind the lane while I rotated one of them into the lane at a time to shoot? I assume it's fine to put up sticky peelback targets on the pistol range backboards? How is range hot/cold managed? Any particular/peculiar rules I need to be aware of? (I'm aware of the need for everyone to have a hunting/fishing permit) Thank you in advance! Want to make sure their first time isn't soured for any reason
We at Legally Armed America were recently filming a segment for a product review for our show when we noticed something in post production in our studios...a .223 round that ricocheted off of "something" when we missed a target with an AR-15 whose sites were way off. Apparently the round deflected straight into the air and came straight down. Of course, we'd rather here from all the ballistics and trajectory "experts" out there tell us what REALLY happened here! We've already ruled out the Taliban and UFO's! UPDATE: MAY BE A WASTE OF TIME TO WATCH! (hahahaha!) Visit www.LegallyArmedAmerica.com for the full product review and the full show episode. http://legallyarmedamerica.com/blog/2013/04/01/video-ricocheted-bullet-lands-somewhere-from-an-ar-15-during-filming/

Caution, this is going to be a long read... Man it was a beautiful day today. Glad I wasn't stuck at work like the last few days. Woke up before the sun came up. I just can't seem to sleep late anymore. Headed out to Wal-Mart in Covington looking for some black Friday deals on ammunition. Today was everyone's lucky day there. I ended up leaving with three boxes of Federal 9mm for $13.97 each. Grown men laughing and giggling like school girls while watching the employees unload their cart of goodies. I think there's a reality show somewhere in there. Headed to Academy to wait for their doors to open at 8am. Nothing new there. I did have a nice chat with the older gentleman working behind the gun counter. I learned a few tidbits of information as well. Grabbed some more 12 gauge shells, why not.
Anyone know when the range is supposed to open in Prairieville?
Like the title says, anyone know if the range is going to be open this Friday, Good Friday? I'm off of work and would like to take advantage of the time off to do something constructive, like shoot things.
The range near Houma just off of Hwy 90 is closed Good Friday, Sat, and Easter Sunday.
I know the range has been closed due to the water being high again (via facebook updates). Does anyone know if it will reopen in the next few weeks? Or is there something keeping the water up?
See ya there. :bigok: http://www.honeyisland.org/conditions.php
Alright I noticed a distince lack of availability of info on places to shoot around here (if your not from here), so I have started to compile a google map of every shooting range in and around LA, now I have started with the obvious googleable ones, but need your help to fill in the new ones, the ones not showing on google, and any shooting pits open to the public... The map is editable by all and if you know a place just place a marker and fill in the description if anyone can help this is will turn out to be a great resource and please dont abuse it by filling in random junk I want this to be a WIKI type were the public shares there vast knowledge!!!!! here is the link https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=207820109926761082513.0004d6cbc41299406d486 In the near future I will be making a gun shop one also... its nice to have all the info that is scattered around the web in one place...
Hello, Is anyone aware of a range in SE Louisiana that allows NRA instructors to teach the CCW class for a fee or share of the revenue? I read in a previous post that some ranges allow instructors to rent thier facilities, and I am looking for a few that are open to the idea of freelance instructors. Thanks
