Looking for a backpack to keep all my long range shooting equipment. I started with a gun, scope, ammo, and range finder which was easy enough. But now that we are getting into it a little deeper and trying to make some long range colt bore shots, my gear list is growing quickly (note books, pens, anometer/thermometer, ballistics tables, chronograph, calculator, GPS, etc). Been looking at 5.11 and Maxpedition bags. Don't necessarily want something huge, but big enough to carry all the gear and hike about a mile relatively comfortably is definitly a must. Have never bought a "good" pack, so i'm pretty clueless. Any help and direction would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know how much your looking to spend, but Triple Aught Design has some cool ones. I don't own one, but I have a lot of their clothes and jackets, and all of it is above top notch.

I have an Eberlestock Gunslinger and TAD Fastpac EDC.

Do you want to carry the gun with a sling or have the option to stow in the pack?

The gunslinger is a great pack, a little big for most shooting days. Eberlestock makes the LoDrag and if it were available when I bought mine, I probably would have opted for it instead.

The TAD pack is great. I just took it to Tenn and used it to carry all my crap for an overnight camping trip in the smokies. It has a tail that can be used to carry a weapon, but normally guns with small stocks(AR, 870, etc.) I dont think a Mcmillan A5 will fit in it, Im 99% sure my Manners T3 fits.

Both packs are expensive, but look for used gear. I got the TAD used for under $200, its barely used. The Eberlestock I was able to get while in the military and it was around $200 as well.

ETA: Just saw your question about drag bags. I dont use a drag bag, but I do use a padded scope/muzzle cover from Triad Tactical. Pretty much use it all the time.

I use a Maxpedition Sitka for carrying shooting gear and ammo to matches and the range.
It also gets used for hiking duty in Tennessee.
The single strap is easy for digging into the pack without removing the bag.

Had a chance to handle a TAD litespeed and Rush 12 adn 24. Haven't been able to locate the Eberlestock yet. Does anybody have one in stock? I'm all over North LA these days and will be around lafayette and Lake Charles area this weekend.
