Rem 1100 pawn shop. Good deal? $189

Ran across a pawn shop Rem 1100 vent rib 28" or more barrel, they are asking $189. Thinking about offering $170. It is a little rough, some rust, might have gas seal issues, but seems to be well used. I miss a semi shotgun. I can miss must faster when shooting a semi over my Wingmaster. Thinking that is a pretty good price.

12, most likely not 3". But all I want it for is shooting at doves once or twice a year.

Great little gun. I have an 1100 LW-20 that I bought new in '74. It was the first shotgun I bought and is a treasure that I will never part with.

The only thing I would change with mine is put a 28 inch remchoke barrel on it.

I pawned and lost my 1100 back in the '80s. I really miss that gun, time to fill a hole in the collection. But I bet I can miss a dove faster with it over the pump Wingmaster. Gonna get it Monday.

Got it today. I really need to spend more time with details... Forearm stock is cracked, and my God, this thing was last cleaned by Moses. The O ring is toast, but was told a #21 Viton O ring will work, and there is a place that sells them on the way to work, probably get 10 for $2. Guy at work has a synthetic stock for a 12 ga he got by mistake will sell it for $35.

Action is nice and smooth after the initial cleaning, it will need more. I have never seen a more dirty gun. Has a full choke barrel. That will make it fun for my Texas dove hunt. Actually, I love shooting at them, but don't eat them myself, always give them to fellow hunters that enjoy them.

Would love a wood stock set on it, but they are very pricey for the 1100's. Should have a pict when it is in a stock.

I'd replace the mag follower b/c the OEM mag followers were prone to being scared
and causing hang ups by not allowing the extractor and bolt to work smoothly.
Usually causing a FTF.

I replaced these parts on a 40 year old Rem. 1100 and she runs like a champ.

Plan to replace those rings and seals ever few thousand shells
and it'll never give you any problems.

Hey, that would be sweet if you have one. The synthetic stuff is OK, but wood is nice.

Hitman, I will order those parts, the ones on the gun are in pretty bad shape. I have a Vang aluminum mag follower. Any one know if they work in older 1100's? I know they don't work in some older Wingmaster 870's. They sure are proud of those O rings, $7? I got about 12 for $2 locally. Is that post '86 seal a one part instead of 2 parts?

It's a two part that snaps together before installment.
The seal is graphite coated instead of just plain rubber as well.

Assuming it has a fixed choke, check the choke constriction. If it's tighter than Modified, don't shoot steel shot thru it.

Check estate sales... I got a 1971 Trap model 1100 (2 3/4") in mint condition not a scratch on it for $350 and I got my 1974 3" Magnum 1100 for $350 also and it was in 95%+ condition. If you just want a beater though I would imagine at least around here I have seen 2 3/4" go for $175 all day.

I bought a 1100 LT-20 years ago to rabbit hunt with. I loved it and don't think I ever missed a rabbit

I would not shoot steel through it no matter what. Ive seen 2 of those older 1100 destroy the barrel with steel. Not pretty

You can buy a "Remchoke" barrel from Remington that will be between 26" 28" and 30" and it shoots steel and lead. I upgraded my 3" magnum 1100 to one of those barrels, and it has all the newer design with vent rib, etc.. built in.
