    Silhouette Match Report

16 shooters came out to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Department range on this warm July day to knock down some steel. The weather was hot and humid just like it usually is this time of year in God’s Country. The wind was mostly a non-factor with the occasional gust not lasting any more than about 20-30 seconds and then it was more of a factor for the shooter than it was on the flight of the bullets. Patrice Kunzli came to the range with her husband Gary and for a change she decided to be a participant instead of a spectator. She posted 2 - 8/40 scores which is not a bad effort for her first time behind the scope and considering she was shooting left handed using a right hand rifle that is not bad at all. I have no doubts that if she gives it some time she will quickly move up the ranks as most ladies do in this sport.

Dustin Flint did what was necessary to win both matches today with a solid 37/40 in Standard and a 35/40 in hunter. Jerry Tureau was a close second in both matches with a 36 and 34. Everyone had a good time and the set up and clean up went very smooth. The scores were as follows:

    Dustin Flint M 10 10 8 9 37

Over the past month several of our shooters traveled to Raton, New Mexico to compete in the NRA Rifle Silhouette Nationals. Dustin Flint, Jacie Kennison and Jerry Tureau shot in the smallbore matches and Doug Singer and Wayne Wands shot in the High Power matches. They all shot well especially this being the first time at the nationals for everyone but Jerry. It is good to see some of our shooters making the trip to represent the state of Louisiana and the rest of the EASL shooters.

Our next match here in Gonzales will be on August 23rd and we will be hosting our Louisiana State Championship match the following weekend on August 30th and 31st. If you would like to see what a well run silhouette match is like please come out to the range the weekend of the state championship and you will not be disappointed. Thanks to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Department for the use of the range and everyone that helped set up and clean up. – Joe DuBoulay
