I had a 64 Bellaire 2 door hard top, 427 4 speed Muncie duel Holly 750s. Regular gas 25 cent, premium 35 cent. She was factory built. Back in those days you could order just about anything you wanted. This was in the mid 70’s.

A $5 bill was my usual payout for gas, that would put my tank to 3/4 full-would last me the whole week lol. That was at about 50 cents a gal back in the mid 70's.

Wolfgang, I saw the price drop to .10 per gallon a few miles West of you on the North East and North West corners of Hwy. 51 and Hwy. 38 during the gas wars of the early 1960's.

1972 when I was a senior in high school gas was 19.9 to 25.9 depending on the brand the station was selling.

In 1973 the price of oil was $3.00 a barrel. It skyrocketed to $12.00 by the end of 1974. This was the first oil embargo. At the time there were areas rationing gasoline and long lines.

I remember the gas rationing of 1973-74. Wasn't there something about license plate odd and even numbers?

I remember when the gas hit .68 (IIRC)in 1978 I thought the country was going to have a revolution! I was a Junior in H.S. working at Nicholson and Loup on Belle Chasse Hwy and had a '73 Mach 1. They had a pump in front of the store and I was pissed!!
