Help! I've got a Ruger American Ranch in 300 blk on order. This will be my son's first rifle that is "his". He is 9, has killed two deer and is really into it.
This will be a dual purpose rifle as I will probably keep it in the truck on the farm some and it will play host to my TBAC 30p-1 suppressor. So hunting rifle that is small and light enough for him to carry but varmint/paper puncher/fun gun for me.
I think my scope criteria are:
Thin/light simple reticle like just a crosshairs
    Target dial turrets
Objective minimum 40mm- something that will let in lots of light for hunting in the woods
Glass of quality for hunting at dusk in the woods.

Not really interested in a bdc or hash mark type ret. Something simple for him would be better. Dial-up turrets would be for me to play with.

    SFP

Good glass, simple ret, w mechanics in the turrets that won't aggregate me.

Can I do that for $500-$700

    Any suggestions

    Thanks

I like the Leupold VXR line for a good hunting scope. Easily in your price range and has illuminated reticle that helps with low light shooting.

This doesnt meet your exact criteria but...A good friend of mine has this on his H&R aac 300blk along with a huntertown 9mm can that he hunts with..he loves it.
