Does anyone run a dedicated 22 lr upper on their ar15? I found one with a 4.5 inch barrel and 7 inch rail that is set up for suppressor use. It has a 1/16 twist and has a Cmmg bcg. Just wondering your experience has been. Are they picky? Would you do it again?

image.jpegI have been running a CMMG conversion through a couple 556 barrels for a while with great function but poor accuracy. I recently picked up a CMMG 22lr 16 inch flattop upper and installed on an extra lower that I had. I replaced the 2 piece handguard with a Midwest Industries free float and replaced the A2 but stock with an Ace stock.
I have had no issues with any ammo that I have used. The accuracy is much better, my groups sizes were cut in half. I should have went the complete upper route before the conversion kit but such is life.
It is much less expensive just to purchase a complete 22 AR than to piece one together but the fun is configuring exactly what you want.

I built an upper with 4.5" cmmg barrel and bolt with 7" rail and it runs great. Firing pin snapped after a brick, but cmmg has great customer service and shipped a new one free ASAP. You just hear the action noise. Plus, newer cmmg .22 barrels are threaded to silencerco o-ring spec if you are running one of their cans. Black dog machine mags work great. I have a MP15-22 that I love that thing is very accurate. I think that if the adapter works it would be awesome to use the S&W mags although it will also allow you to use the Plinker Tactical mags but they are more awkward to load but they do hold 35 rounds and are half the price of S&W mags.

I used to have a Cmmg conversion and a Keltec plr22 and had both type of mags, and maybe I'm a little girly, but they were a pain in the butt to load. Hence the mag adaptor seems like a good idea.... Actually I already ordered it, 2 mags, and a 4.5 inch upper. Going to put it on my seekins sbr lower, and probably sell my AAC 9 inch upper that's currently on it.

My 22LR upper came in today, Threw on some troy sights I painted a long time ago (but ended up using magpul pro's), an extra Primary Arms micro dot, and on one of my seekins SBR lowers. Also threw my sparrow on.

It's a 4.5 inch barrel, 7 inch SLR intrepid rail, with a dedicated CMMG 22lr bolt.

Just waiting on my M&P15-22 mags and magblock to come in.

I called them on Friday, and they gave me a discount, and shipped it out and I received it today! That's pretty darn quick shipping and great service.

I also ordered the better mag conversion from brownells and some M&P15-22 mags

    http://www.brownells.com/rifle-part...22-magazine-conversion-adapter-prod56474.aspx

I'm waiting on that to come in, ordered Friday, and I just got shipping notification today, and it hasn't left their building yet, just notification that they made the label.

Thanks! I like the idea of a dedicated upper. I have a huntertown arms 22lr can that I have been looking to use for this sort of build.

My wife decided today's the day to deliver our first child, so I probably won't have time this week, but after a week or so, if you ever wanna check it out. Just message me or text me and we can see if your can works on it, or if you just want to check out the craftsmanship. I'm always down for shooting! Or even shooting the breeze

Nordic Components has a new version of their .22lr uppers out. They have a 16" and a 9.25". They are awesome and are $100 off on Black Friday. I also have a 7% off code. Shoot me a PM or email for the code.
