Put a new scope on my LR308 and wanted to bore sight it in first.
Directions say to bore sight it in at 25 meters. So I did. But of course I had to play with the laser and noticed if I put the laser out to 100 so yards that the cross hairs were at least a foot low. So my question is adjust it to 100 yards or follow the directions and stay bore sighted in at 25. ( I didn't follow the directions and bore sighted it in at 100.)
    Looking for your methods !
    Thanks

I tried the directions with my XCR 700 .308 and hit dirt @50. So I put laser on target at 100 picked scope up close and went from there. I hate bore sighters lol.

Do you know the ballistics of the round you are zeroing for?

Those are more than likely just generic directions. They don't take into account scope height, barrel length, etc...

In my experience a 25m zero will shoot high @100 and dead on @200m.

    Agree.

Better off shooting targets at 25 yd and gradually work out. Depending on what you are wanting to do, I would read some ballistics charts and see where you want your zero to be.

There are several really good threads about bore sighting and sighting a rifle in general. Some of the best advice I read here was from member Barney88PDC (a long distance shooter).

Find those and use the tips. ;)

I still am not a fan of bore sighters but sometimes they really are the best way to get it done, at least in my experience. Can be a hassle though, so I feel your pain.

I love using a laser bore sighter for getting a scope set up. In my experience at 100 yards so cross hairs will need to be a couple inches below the laser at 100 yards

Most laser boresights are for close range. They get you on paper within a relatively close distance. That's all they are meant to do (mostly).

Especially if using it for more than a few seconds/minutes at a time. Those lasers heat up and start to wonder pretty quick.

Get winchesters free ballistics calculator app. It has a bunch of popular rounds. You can plug all the data into that and you can get a ballistics data sheet. You can then sight in at whatever distance you want and you'll know from the sheet how high or low you should be. With the app you can plug in different zero distances so you can see the type of trajectories are best suited for your shooting application.

Take the bolt out, pick a target about 100 yards away and center it in the bore while looking through it, now dial the scope in on it, just remember when making the correction their going to be backwards
