I don't know how good a deal, but since used early models are selling for $700 and up I thought I would mention this. I picked up a Ranch Rifle (Mini 14) at Walmart on Highway 14 South Lake Charles an hour ago for $627 plus tax. They had one more rifle in the back at that price. They sold out at the Jennings Walmart several months ago when Walmart stopped selling AR's and anything tactical. Some folks may not like the Ranch Rifle, but some may. Seems like a good price for a new heavy barrel Mini with the better rear sight, with two 5 round magazines and scope rings and rail. Also, I noted that the receiver is now marked 5.56 rather than .223 as they used to be. They shoot both calibers, but you know that.
