    OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT
HIGH POWER RIFLE 80 SHOT REGIONAL MATCH FORMAT
    MATCH DATE 16 APRIL 2016
MATCH DIRECTOR JOSEPH C. MEYNIER III

Last year’s April match was cancelled due to rain. The weather for this match was dry and comfortable but completely overcast with the strongest winds this match director has ever experienced at Palo Alto. Cooperatively enough, the wind was blowing directly to the west from the firing line straight down the fairway to the targets. The wind value was negligent but by the time that the wind arrived at the target things became very fishtailly and with no mirage at all it was a challenge.
For the second month in a row the high score of the day came from the Expert class with Gary Schwabe turning in a 743-8 with a service rifle. High Master was Dwayne Vidrine firing his new match rifle with a 741-8. 1st Expert went to Mike Strikemiller with a 719-3 and in the combined Sharpshooter/Marksman class 1st place went to Sharpshooter Hank Ellis with a 650-8.
We had both new shooters and junior shooters and that is what we like to see. I hope that you had fun and I look forward to seeing you all at future matches. Lee Shall called the line. Thanks Lee.
The next approved High Power match is scheduled for 21 May, 2016. Registration opens at 0700 and closes at 0800. Bring a new shooter with you. The weather should be quite pleasant.

    Gump,

Since you will be shooting at 200, 300 & 600 yds. You will need bullets at least 69 grains or heavier. The 77 gr bullets will work or the 80 gr at the 600 yd line would be great also. My understanding is they want military style rifles like the Colt H-Bar w/20" barrel but times are changing. My understanding they are allowing scopes with no greater than 4 power to be used. Hopes this helps and I'm sure others will chime in when they see the thread.

Is it correct that you cannot shoot .223/5.56 at the matches?

No, in fact .223 is the preferred caliber in highpower competition. You can shoot 55gr ball and well at 200 and 300, but at 600 you will need a minimum of 69gr preferably 75gr or higher.
There is also a reduced course match on Gonzales on May 28th shot from 200yds only

Would a 3-gun AR with a comp and 1x4 scope be ok to shoot? I shoot mainly pistol so I'm not up to snuff on the requirements or rules.

You need 20" of barrel on an AR15 for 600 yd. A 16" barreled carbine will not work at 600 yd. but will work for the Gonzales 200 yd. reduced course match. Bring what you have and come shoot with us.

Sorry but comps and suppressors are not legal for NRA competition. However for $5 you can rent one of the LSA rifles that is 100% match ready.

Come on out and see what precision marksmanship is about.
