HIGH POWER RIFLE 80 SHOT REGIONAL MATCH FORMAT

Last year’s May match was cancelled due to flooding. A thorough soaking on Thursday the 19th of May this year left the range in a slightly flooded but still serviceable condition by Saturday morning. That didn’t stop eighteen competitors who enjoyed partly cloudy skies as a cold front blew through all day providing delightful temperatures, low humidity and a steady, manageable breeze from 3 o’clock.
The high score of the day belonged to Master Class Warren Freeman who turned in 762-20. High Master John Laws matched that X count for a close 2nd over-all high score of 756-20. Expert class was taken by Mike Strikmiller with 742-8 while not far behind that score 1st Sharpshooter went to Clarence Guthrie with a 738-10. Finally 1st Marksman went to Barry Wilbert with a very respectable 691-5.
Our participation count continues to steadily increase as we pick up new shooters and competitors from the Gonzales match and from as far away as Jackson, Mississippi. The 200 and 300 yard berms were as groomed as a putting green thanks to Karl Schroeder. That made finding brass much easier. Thanks Karl. Lee Shall called his usual excellent line and thank you to John Laws and everyone who helped John after the match to raise the back of the target shed trailer. Now any water will drain forward and out of the trailer until we can permanently raise the trailer.
The next approved High Power match will be held on Saturday, June 18th. Registration opens at 0700 and closes at 0800. Bring a new shooter with you, plenty of sunscreen and water. I look forward to seeing you on the 18th!
