I picked up a stevens 308 with the gray composite stock. The stockers really cheap. Is it worth bedding the action and floating the barrel on the stock? Or shoukd I buy a differant stock.

A composite stock is a good bedding platform. I always check the stiffness of the stock and the material that is available to remove. Remove the action from the stock and attempt to bend; if it flexes consider a new stock. If the material around the barrel lug is thin I might move onto a new stock.

Got bored and tried painting the stock. Went with the rustoleum textured black. Looked great, only problem is 5 days later I can rub it off with my fingers. Can said sticks to plastic with no primer needed. Guess that's bs. So now it's clean it up and try again.

Clean the stock and paint it with Bulldog Adhesion Promoter or similar product. When paint doesn't stick to plastic it is sometimes mold release.

Tried that. Sanded it again with 180. Primed. Sanded with 220. Tack rag. Wiped it again. Painted. Primer and paint wrinkled and peeled off. So now I'm gonna let it sit a few days. Then I'll sand again and try again. It kills me not having this rifle togather.

Thanks. There are a few automotive paint stores here in hammond. I will find it. This thing is kicking my ars. I can paint a fire truck at Ferrara and lay it down beautiful. But a damn plastic gun stock is a whole new game to me.

I used some of the Bulldog on a stock. Luckily a guy at a body shop just let me use some. It is expensive and I can't guarantee it will solve the problem.
Weird thing is I could not tell it was sprayed after it dried.

Be careful with the bedding compound....some will not stick to "composites", if paint will not stick chances are bedding compound may not either....try a small spot before going to trouble of a complete bedding job.

After talking to Stevens I found out they had a bad batch of stocks. Meaning bedding compounds, paint, hydrodipping ect will not stick. Something to do with mix ratio in the poly stock. So I gave up. Gonna order a aftermarket stock.
