Earlier this year I finally got around to building a gas forge and tinkering around with the hobby of amateur black smithing / blade smithing. Here is my first completed knife. It is 1095 steel from a sugar cane harvester chopper blade. The design is loosely based on a "Mini Bush Seax".

I have about 7 hours of labor in it and $25 of materials.

You've done what I've been wanting to do. That s a very nice knife for your first attempt. I'll get there, but it may not be this year. I've got way too many irons in the fire as it is. Again, that is a job well done.

Not bad for your first go around. I'm sure you already know what you would do different next time. It's very easy to get excited and miss some steps when you are working on your first few.

Very nice. I've been watching Forged in Fire & some of the guys on there are very talented. Do you plan on selling some or is this going to be a pass time thing?
Hell I'd love to watch you work on some as they come out of the forge.

I really don't want to make a sheath but I guess I have to at this point, probably a simple as possible.
No plans to sell any, I enjoy doing it, but I plan to make a few to give away.

Good job. After watching the forging shows on tv, I have an interest in learning that craft one day as well.
