I just recently did an overnight in Kisatchie. Well worth the 4 hour drive.

Kisatchie---Backbone Trail, the only national wilderness area in Louisiana.

Lots of elevation changes as well as big rocks, boulders and rock outcroppings and overlooks.

    A very unique place

I enjoyed my last trip there. We'll be heading to Homochitto soon.

Newbie to backpacking, just did my first trip over the summer. 3 nights and 33 miles in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Loved every second of it. Haven't done anything local yet. Planning on hitting up Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas as soon as possible. Not sure what the big trip next year will be but thinking about the Wonderland Trail in Washington.

Did you park in one of the campgrounds or just at a random stopping place on the road, Dave?

You can park at the trailhead or at the individual trail stops along the Wild Azalea trail.

Dave, Homochitto sounds interesting. Any more information on that area?

I have not been yet, but one guy in our group has been multiple times. We're going soon and I'll report back here.

    Awesome, thanks!

I've camped out in Homochitta multiple times. Love it!
