    I'm looking for some different food ideas. I'm allergic to onions (even onion powder) so most of the freeze dried foods don't work for me.

    What do you bring?

    I'm not a big fan of the ready-made freeze dried stuff. I go backpacking with my sons' Scout Troop. We're currently gearing up for a Philmont trek in June 2018, in fact. Breakfast is usually instant cocoa/coffee with instant oatmeal (oatmeal condiments: individual honey/jelly packets, half&half coffee creamer, dried fruit). Everyone's favorite lunch seems to be tortilla wraps with peanut butter and honey/jelly with dried banana chips (fresh banana slices are better) or other nuts/dried fruit. We lean towards eating smaller meals and a lot of high-energy snacks throughout the day: trail mix, dried fruit, jerky, granola/fruit bars, peanut butter, cheese and crackers, etc. Dinners are usually a one-pot meal like spaghetti, stew, beans, or something like our no-name pot o' instant potatoes with dried sweet peas and cut beef jerky. Rarely do we bring any canned/foiled meats, we usually just cook with dehydrated or cured meats. Dessert is usually no-mess instant pudding (mixed with skim milk powder and cold water in gallon ziplock bag), or chocolate bars, or packaged cookies. Instead of oil we bring real butter, since it tastes better, doesn't need refrigeration and works with just about anything.
