    Cabelas has the Leupold VX6 3-18 for $899 right now. I know its over your budget but this is a badass optic. Buy once cry once. If your a Cabelas member they sent out coupons last week for $75 off if you spend over $500. That will pay the taxes.

    Yes I received the coupon and I'm sure the Leupold is awesome however I do want to stick to my budget as close as possible. There has to be a good choice in that price point.

    My vote is for Nikon. Mrs. Clause is supposed to get me the 3.5-14 prostaff xr for Christmas. It's running $330ish. They offer more zoom in the same basic scope for less than $500.

    A side note on Nikon. They make their own glass and imho you can't beat their clarity with an extra $2-300 dollars.

    Will be heading to Cabelas next weekend to look over a variety of scopes including Vortex and Nikon. All my current scopes are 1" so this one may move me to the 30mm version.

    Vortex has 1" tube models as well, but you selection will be limited compared to the 30mm models.
