    You should be able to do a transfer over there if you can find a dealer willing to do it. You can buy a long gun in another state but not a handgun.

    I know you can buy long guns from an FFL in another state, and I believe they have to be neighboring states (ie: Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas for us) but correct me if I'm wrong on that. I never really thought about a private sale across state lines. Good thread

    That adjoining state requirement was removed decades ago, but there might be one or two states that did not retract it after the federal law changed.

    LA and TX don't care where you bought the gun out of state, but the Feds require at least one FFL to be involved between residents of two states.
