I finally got around to taking my Mini 14 build out for a test run. I wanted an all American rifle that was robust and some what old school. I started with a 580 series Mini 14 with a stainless barrel and synthetic stock. I then mated it with a Leupold Mark AR scope (1.5x4)
To finish it off I applied cerakote to the barrel and receiver to match the scope. I did all of the work to the rifle and like how it turned out. Of all the days I could pick to dial the scope in I had to pick today with 15-20 mph cross winds. I didn't care and rolled out to the farm anyways. I set up my target at around 40 yards and then about 65 yards. I know it will never shoot as good as groups as an AR, but as a critter gitter ( See photo of a sticker my son gave me for Christmas ) it's plenty good enough. Obviously the tighter group was at the closer distance, but any thing I hunt with this rifle would be down with the 60 yard grouping. Happy New Year and get on out and put some shots down range.
