Hello all just bought a Remington 700 sps tactical LT. .308 20" fluted 1-10 twist rifle, put a Nikon monark 4-16x42 mill dot scope. I'm looking for some ammo that won't kill the pocket book but fun and accurate to shoot, don't wanna pay $40 plus a box just for fun range shooting. I have heard that 168gr is the best, anybody with this gun can shed some light on any ammo would be much appreciated!!!! Thanks

Reloading would be the cheapest option in the long run, and you can find what your rifle like best. I've heard people say the federal gold match 168 gr, and the black hills 168 load is accurate factory. You can pick up 200rds on Gunbroker for $1.25 ish a rd if you are patient... Also federal fusion is decent for a fuzz less.

That's not to bad of a price, I have had a few buddy's telling me to by rounds at $2- $2.50 a peice, lol I'm not that good of a shot, yet that is, I just want somthing that is capable of under a 1" at 100 if I do my part, not under a 1" at 300 yards yet that time will come though I'm sure once I start shooting it a lot, I have a bunch of assault rifles and love to go just burn some rounds, but am really excited to try some slow long range accuracy shots, hope this doesn't turn to a new addiction lol

Academy has federal Gold Medal Match 168 for $25 a box. That's the best price on it I have found, assuming it's in stock.

$25 a box. Federal Gold Medal Match. My Accuracy International didn't shoot the 168's bad. Shot three boxes through it waiting on my brass and powder to show up. Now shooting hand loaded 175 grain Sierra Match Kings in Lapua Brass.

    No. Well, maybe no.

Each rifle is different. Try everything you can and see what she likes. (This is where reloading comes in handy)

Lapua Scenar 155 is a great pill. As is the SMK 168 or 175. 178 AMAX is sexy too. I dont know about the Lapua, but the rest of those are commercially available in box ammo.

A lot of precision shooters like the 168gr for the barrels near 1:11 twist. Ive recently started loading my own and experimenting since Im now pushing 500+ yards with my rem 308 after a good bit of mods and work done to it. Im starting to see how certain loads etc are the "sweet spot" when you can adjust your own.

    Real good looking gun.
I have the Rem. 700 VTR .308 w/ a 50mm Nikon Scope and have shot a 3 shot group on a thumb fingernail at 100 yards w/ Federal Fusion 165 grain for $22/box.

I just received 250 rounds of that blue plastic "training" ammo just to play around with. I haven't shot it yet but at $0.17 per round it sounds fun just to make my rifle go bang.
