H&R Handi Rifle Barrel Program

I was on the phone today with H&R to find out if an SB-2 receiver I was looking at could have an additional barrel fitted after hunting season. The customer service rep told me that the program was stopped "today" and that they had not updated their website yet.

Has anyone else heard about H&R ending this very popular program?

Most of the CSR's don't know squat about what's going on. I don't see any indication of this on this forum and it's the go-to HR Handy forum: http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/hr-centerfire-rifles/
There is a classified section along with WTB or WTT section but you can only see it if you are a registered user.
Graybeard also has the go-to Thompson Center Contender and Encore forums.

Apparently they are ending the barrel program. Didn't bother me too much since the barrel fitting fees went up and you can get a whole used rifle for not much more than having a barrel fitted and I rather have the whole rifle than fool with changing out barrels. The whole rifle costs about as much as a T/C barrel.

That's a good point. I was looking forward to having the extra barrels around and saving a little space in the safe but guess I'll just have to get the whole rifle now.

called today and shipped a lower to get fitted. rep never said anything about the program stopping.

Seems that each customer service rep may have a different answer. Also, it seems dependent on the caliber that you're trying to get fitted.

I'm going by what they have been saying on Graybeard Outdoors HR forum. Others there have sent in recievers and had them sent back to them.

Read this on another forum: Don't know if this is true or not .

Had heard rumor H&R Barrel Accessory Program being shut down.
Just called customer service....lady confirmed it....basically already shut down.

Will honor open orders and new orders for barrels in stock, for a couple of weeks...but be shut down completely by 2015

Update, the Handi Rifle/Pardener/Topper single shot rifles and shotguns are being discontinued as well.

Too bad a line that has been around for over a 100 years......
This was the program....website not up dated.

Also to bad that I'm still missing a few calibers......
