I can get about the same package for half the cost. Downsides?

My house is wired for cable. What do the dishes use? Will they have to totally rrewire my house?

    Thanks

Satellite tv uses existing coax cables same as cable so no rewiring is necessary. Down side is bad weather usually knocks out the signal temporarily. Hi def signal is weaker and will go out first. Keep a rabbit ear antenna handy for long periods of bad weather. Your dish will needs a clear line of site to the orbiting satellite so placement on your house is dictated by that fact.

Make sure you have a good dvd collection for those rainy days. You won't be watching much tv. That and having to buy boxes and pay a rental fee for those boxes that I bought is why i will never go back to direcTV or satellite.

I've had Dish Network for 2 years and have never had an issue. It has been pouring rain and it only took 2 minutes for it to get signal then never lost it again, even with HD.

I can't recommend it enough. Especially with the Hopper!

We went from COX to DISH almost 8 years ago. We upgraded to the hopper 2 years ago. We are very satisfied. The weather is a "sometime" problem; the weather has to be pretty bad and it only lasts for a few minutes. On the upside, guess who was the only one in my circle of friends with TV service during Isaac? A second advantage if you RV; get a portable DISH set up and you only to take one of the receivers from your house...you'll never miss a show. We still have COX internet service. All-in-all very satisfied with DISH.

I switched from Directv to Dish 3 days ago. What is the hopper good for? I wasn't around for the install so really don't know of any features yet.

Hopper basically connects all the receivers in the house so you can watch anything from any TV.

Also allows you to "hop" past commercials on the prime time networks after the recording is finished.

Records all 4 prime time channels automatically and still allows you to record 2 more channels.
