Rifle rods are the answer to your "too many rifles for the safe" dilemma. I made my own using wooden dowels, 1" velcro and a yard of some type of sweater material from Hobby Lobby. I sized the wooden dowels for the barrel they were going in and used 1" square dowels sliced in 1/4" pieces to form the end (that sticks to the shelf) of the rod. The 1" Velcro has a self-adhesive back and it fits perfectly onto the 1" square dowel pieces. It was time consuming to do but saved some money. Mostly I wanted to be able to size the rod for each barrel so a 223 and a 12ga weren't both using a narrow rod. I also made a new top shelf out of MDF and covered the entire thing with the sweater material. I forget what the material is called but I made sure the Velcro would stick to it really well before buying. Basically I took some Velcro out of the pack and walked around touching bolts of fabric until I found what I needed. I probably looked like a mental patient.
