The recent "SWATting" events (fake SWAT / 911 calls made on citizens alleging false criminal behavior) made me think. What if someone yelling "Police!" kicks in your door?

If someone kicks in your door you'd (hopefully) be grabbing a handful of weapon and anticipating a home invasion. But ........ the person(s) kicking in your door (or whatever) are yelling "POLICE!"

Whaddaya do? Meet the intruder with a weapon and it IS the Police responding to a false alarm? Oh-oh!!! :eek3:

Not have a weapon and it's really a lying scumbag(s) breaking down your door?

Seems this could be a real conundrum. But what do you do? Thoughts?

Yrdawg will be along to tell you what to do shortly.

Thanks. Hopefully he'll be more helpful than the current crop of answers. It was a legitimate question. Not blaming cops or civil rights infringement. A logical, legitimate question. If you don't know, just say so. Snarkiness won't keep someone from getting hurt if an intruder identifying himself as a cop breaks down your door....

I have to agree with the original poster. Just because I haven't been on the forum FOREVER, doesn't mean that my questions are not legitimate. If you have seen the question previously
and are tired of it, then either ignore it or direct the poster to some helpful information. This is one reason many of us only lurk.

Have you seen evidence of a rash of home invasions involving perps shouting "POLICE" and killing all the occupants of the home? I haven't.

If houses in your neighborhood are A) Being raided by the REAL police or B) Being robbed at gunpoint by thugs posing as the police, I think the most prudent thing you can do is MOVE.

One more tiny tip: If it IS the REAL police, having a weapon in your hand is not going to end well.

Yes, this has been discussed numerous times. And it never ends well.

Bottom line is...there's NOTHING you can do. If it's the real popo's and you come at them armed, your ass is going down. If it's fake popo's and you don't come at them armed, your ass is likely going down. Sorry, but you're screwed either way.

The GOOD news is, the chances of a) people posing as a SWAT team kicking in your door and b) a real SWAT team kicking in your door without just cause are both virtually zero. Time would literally be better spent discussing how to avoid being struck by lightning or eaten by a shark.

+1 you post a couple of times and get ridiculed about it and leave. I almost done it but I'm too hard headed.

We'll just discuss what we're going to do in case of zombie invasion instead. That's So Much More Likely!

    You're probably right!

Really though, zombies are different. Zombie invasions have simple solutions. Shoot 'em in the head, burn the remains, etc.

These threads, however, serve no purpose other than being an excuse for people to complain about police procedures and the highly, highly unlikely chance that a SWAT team is going to randomly kick in their door. There's no point in discussing it, because there is no solution.

I have seen a few videos on YouTube on specifically that kind of encounter. Some thugs breaking in as police and got their asses handed to them by the armed home owner. It was all caught on the owners surveillance camera. Luckily the home owner realized the pulled up in the driveway in a 1988 Cutlass on 22's.

If they burst through the door yelling police and you don't have a gun in your hand, they already have the drop on you and running for a gun is going to get you killed no matter who they are.

If you happen to have a gun when they come through and they're cops, they're probably going to give you a very brief window to put it down before they drop you. If it's bad guys, they probably won't give you the chance to decide one way or another.

In this situation, imo, you're screwed. What can you do?
