Looking into possibly getting an auto .22lr handgun. Choices I'm looking into are the Walther P22, the Sig Mosquito, and the Ruger SR-22. Few people I've talked to highly recommend the SR-22, and just wanted to hear some other opinions (Experience based). Only bad things I've heard about the others are they are finicky with certain ammo. Is this the case across the board? Or just specific to the Mosquito and P22?

Ruger +1. I've got '42 '43 high standards that I absolutely love as well. great plinking guns. For daily fun and varmints, Ruger MK is my favorite of your list.

    I've shot the walther p22, ruger sr22, and I own a s&w m&p .22.

I didn't care for the walther. It felt ok in my hand, but the DA trigger sucked donkey balls IMO. It was heavier and stacked much more than the beretta 92 I had. I'll never own one.

The sr22 belonged to another guy I met at a range. The DA trigger pull wasn't bad at all, the single action was pretty good as well IMO. I would be happy to own one.

I bought the M&P .22 because I wanted a full size .22 that would give me a similar feel to my XDm that I carry. It's only been to the range once so far. I like the trigger on it ALOT, but I can keep my XDm 9 in a 5 inch group easily at 10 yards without focusing too much. The m&p was lucky to stay in an 8 inch group with focused shooting at the same distance. I'm not sure if it was the ammo, the wind, or me, but the accuracy sucked that day. I'm going to try it out again at precision and fiddle with the sights to see if I can tighten the group so we'll see. :dunno:

Out of the 3 you've chosen though I'd go with the SR22 hands down.

I love my P22, had it since 07 with no issues. They seem to have fallen out of favor for some reason though, with the SR22 as the new darling. Can't beat a classic like the Ruger MkII though.

I realize that as the owner of an issue free Mosquito I seem like the rarity in any crowd. It doesn't HAVE to have CCI Mini Mags....just decent ammo for breaking it in. The only thing it hasn't liked has been those farting subsonic Remington rounds.

The P22 and MkII are great guns. But I love my little Mosquito for the .22 plinking. They only come with one mag, and extras were about $45 last year when I got the Mosquito.

Are you just saying that after getting to finger bang mine for a little while yesterday?

Of the ones you listed, get the P22, run from the Sig. Not listed, the 22/45, I hate taking it apart but it's reliable

Thanks gentlemen, input is greatly appreciated. I have considered the Buckmark and MKII just don't like the length and weight. They are amazingly accurate and the ones I shot didn't have a single hiccup (maybe I should reconsider). I wanted more of a tradition styled smaller handgun since its what I'm used to.

My order of precedence for reliability with what I own:
    1) Ruger MK III and Buckmark are tied
    2) Smith and Wesson 22A target
    3) Ruger SR22
    4) Walther P22
    5) Colt (Walther) 1911
    6) Sig Misquito
Both the Colt and Sig are not nearly as reliable as the MK III or Browning. The one that surprises me is the S&W 22A. Very nice pistol.

Get the new Ruger 22/45 MK III Lite.

    http://www.ruger.com/products/2245/index.html

I want one to compliment my bull 22/45. I can hit paperclips at 25 yards without support with that thing. I popped a snake in the head from 100ft while it was moving with one shot once. Amazing gun. If the Lite is 1/2 the gun, it's a lot better than the other ones you're looking at.

If you're looking for something to tinker with there's a multitude of options, but if you want something accurate then hands down get a mkII or a buckmark.
