$15,000 is not a significant sum. I'm sure the main point was to slap them on the hand for not knowing better. The additional training is what was needed, though.

Guys that just sue with the intent of making $$$ off of a cop's ignorance to the law is just dumb. As much of a gun hobbyist as I am, I don't know all the laws. I wouldn't expect an officer to know ever law out there (though one would hope that they'd at least know they are an open carry state...).

Glad no one got hurt and they pushed for more training.

Now, forgive me for being skeptical, but who do we have as a witness besides the 64 year old Army vet that the officer in question, for no reason whatsoever, pulled his duty weapon and pointed it at said veteran?

I am not saying this couldn't or didn't happen, I just find these stories hard to believe.

I'm not promoting him to sue because the officer made a genuine mistake. I'm promoting him to sue because this officer stuck a gun in his face. I'd promote him to sue so that it becomes a national message that police officers are not above the rights of citizens. If the officer had any debatable cause to present lethal force, the dept wouldn't have offered a preemptive settlement of 15k. There should -never- be a situation in which the officer was brought to pointing a firearm at a citizen that ends with letting the citizen leave freely.

I'd want his badge, but I'm thrilled that they opted for more training. More education and more training is always a plus - leo or not.

I think he is living his life through old people. He read the article and said "yeah I could've done that at Starbucks"

Sounds like cool heads prevailed.. No one was shot, good guy left with his gun and cop went home safe. Think about confronting 4 people an hour for 10 or 12 hours a day.. **** would get OLD
