I need (want) a 4x4. I'd love a new truck, but honestly no way i'd be able to make that commitment. Im not 100% set on going get one, but it's going through my mind.

If you guys had to get a 4x4 crew cab between the ages of 2004-2010, under 20k, what would it be? My main concern is reliability, as I travel to Venice for work. I have an 04 silverado crew cab now and love it, and if it was 4x4 I would keep it. Just would like others opinions on different brands, and what drivetrains for those brands as I know all brands have certain troubles.

I have a 07 Silverado classic crew cab 4x4 5.3L 120k and not a single issue. It grew up though in the Sierra mtns but do know it loves mud.

    2009 Chevy 1500 HD and it's a BEAST. It's got the 6.0 and it's wearing a set of 38's with a 6" lift, and I'm getting 14MPG.

If you're driving to Venice for work why not keep the 2wd for the commute and get a cheap older project 4x4 for tearing up offroad. That's always been my view is to have a nice reliable good mpg car for driving and a POS for tearing up in the woods.

For the question we run chevy/gmc 2500s up here most are 6.0L, 2006-2013 in the fleet and considering where we take them and what we put them through I wouldn't be worried at all about the occasional hunting type excursion. That said, I have seen a snapped drive shaft and a broken frame, but blame that on the drivers.
