I don't see where the OP was rude (or a "douche") to the teller - informed her of his decision to do business elsewhere due to a bank policy that was not her fault and moved along. I would have shed the cover, posed for the camera and recovered.

I went to Regions bank today to order some checks. The first part of the conversation consisted of the teller saying that she would have to ask me to remove my hat. I said "Excuse me, what did you just say?" She repeated that she would have to ask me to remove my hat. I said I will have to refuse. She said that she would have to ask me to leave the bank. I said "I'm leaving and my accounts, my money and everything else will be following me shortly." She apologized. I told her there was no need to apologize as it wasn't her fault but I would not be doing business there anymore.
I know, no threat to them but a whole load of satisfaction for me.

Same thing happened to me at Regions Bank on Airline Highway a couple of years ago. I was wearing a baseball cap...and the security guard stopped me at the door. He told me to take off the cap. At first I was kind of shocked. But then...once I thought about it, it makes a lot of sense. The only way security cameras work is if they can see my and your face.

I'm totally OK with it. Every business has the right to set their policy....and the customer has the right to turn around and walk. Its life.

Its your choice not to do business there. And if you are true to your word, thanks for having the back bone so many (even here) don't have.

On the second thought, yeah if you're USMC, why aren't you still scared to wear a cover inside lol

I find it ironic that people here are so supportive of this policy.

Do you think a bank robber is going to obey a no hats and sunglasses sign anymore than he's going to obey a no guns sign?

You have a marine logo as your avatar, you should know that you are supposed to remove your cover when inside.
Really though, I think it is a stupid policy but it is for security. A lot of banks have signs on the door (almost all chain banks that I have used) saying not hats or sunglasses.

I work at a bank and ask dozens of people to remove hats and sunglasses every single day. 95% of them are very cool. The rest are jerks and act just like you did. Very unprofessional and just plain out rude. The policy is there for a damn good reason. Getting a clear shot of everyones' face is important. If someone came in and stole money from YOUR account you would want the bank to have a clear picture of their face so proper charges can be pressed and so you can get your money back. Also, if you don't ask everyone (even the people you see EVERY single day) to take off their hats and sunglasses, then when the new stranger walks in and you ask them, they point at the other person and ask why they are being treated differently.

There are a few other aspects of greeting and asking every single person to take their hat / glasses of that I can't really go into, but all in all it helps. The teller didn't make the policy, neither did the branch manager or any of the personal bankers. Enforcing it for everyone keeps the bank and the customers protected. Taking it as an insult and being a jerk about it just isn't cool.

Way to be a douche to the teller.
    Agreed.

It's not really about bank robbers. People commit MANY more crimes at banks that robbing them. Check fraud is a pretty big one and results in lots of people's money being stolen.

If they put a sign on the door of the bank, I have no problem removing said items. Not that I normally wear a hat or sun glasses to my bank.

I love my bank, they notarized my CCL application for free, many of them know me by name, and even though I don't have much $ in the bank I am treated very well.

If I was the OP, I would have removed my hat, but that is up to him, don't see him being a 'jerk', he decided he did not agree with the policy, left, and chose to do binus elsewhere. Is that not what the free market is about? A jerk would have yelled, screamed and demanded to be served with his hat on.

Since criminals often wear hoods and/or hats, why not have a couple of lower level cameras to get better picts of potential criminals faces?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean I had a guy turn red and threaten to jump over the counter if we didn't cash his check...all because he didn't want to take his hat off. The immediate assumption was that he was doing something illegal. It is usually a 30 second encounter. Why not just cooperate and be cool about it like most people are? Is being asked to remove a hat really a big insult?

The Chase banks in BR didn't have that policy when I moved from there in 2011 and the one here in Danville doesn't.

It's rude to wear a hat indoors. I take mine off when I enter. And the staff knows me by name, like Fred. That is important to me and a reason I don't use drive thrus.

Im surprised myself to the responses here. First Off one of the above posts was right a Criminal will not obey those SILLY rules. Who cares if you have a ball cap on.. Second the post of "wouldnt you like to know who steals your money" is lame because FDIC covers up to 250k, The Bank wont release that much money without a bunch of hassle (ever try to get like 5k out?). Also if you have more than 250k in cash you are investing wrong.

It is about privacy and this Nanny state everyone is expected to just "comply." Cause no trouble obey, resistance is futile.

I would take my business elsewhere, They may not feel your loss, but if more do it just like anything else they will eventually.

I am really considering moving all my stuff from Chase because they have this new rule that I need to show ID to deposit Cash into my account. Its OK since Most runs through my business account and they dont require ID for deposit haha.

As the person above that works at the Bank and says people are asses and you dont make the policy.. Oh Well you are the Face of the Bank and get paid to take the grunt of your employers so if you dont like it you are free to leave as well.

Im just amazed at people on here that say you should just lay down and take it.
