I don't see where the OP was rude (or a "douche") to the teller - informed her of his decision to do business elsewhere due to a bank policy that was not her fault and moved along. I would have shed the cover, posed for the camera and recovered.
I went to Regions bank today to order some checks. The first part of the conversation consisted of the teller saying that she would have to ask me to remove my hat. I said "Excuse me, what did you just say?" She repeated that she would have to ask me to remove my hat. I said I will have to refuse. She said that she would have to ask me to leave the bank. I said "I'm leaving and my accounts, my money and everything else will be following me shortly." She apologized. I told her there was no need to apologize as it wasn't her fault but I would not be doing business there anymore.
I know, no threat to them but a whole load of satisfaction for me.
You have a marine logo as your avatar, you should know that you are supposed to remove your cover when inside.
Really though, I think it is a stupid policy but it is for security. A lot of banks have signs on the door (almost all chain banks that I have used) saying not hats or sunglasses.
Agreed.Way to be a douche to the teller.
It's not really about bank robbers. People commit MANY more crimes at banks that robbing them. Check fraud is a pretty big one and results in lots of people's money being stolen.I find it ironic that people here are so supportive of this policy.
Do you think a bank robber is going to obey a no hats and sunglasses sign anymore than he's going to obey a no guns sign?
Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean I had a guy turn red and threaten to jump over the counter if we didn't cash his check...all because he didn't want to take his hat off. The immediate assumption was that he was doing something illegal. It is usually a 30 second encounter. Why not just cooperate and be cool about it like most people are? Is being asked to remove a hat really a big insult? If they put a sign on the door of the bank, I have no problem removing said items. Not that I normally wear a hat or sun glasses to my bank.
I love my bank, they notarized my CCL application for free, many of them know me by name, and even though I don't have much $ in the bank I am treated very well.
If I was the OP, I would have removed my hat, but that is up to him, don't see him being a 'jerk', he decided he did not agree with the policy, left, and chose to do binus elsewhere. Is that not what the free market is about? A jerk would have yelled, screamed and demanded to be served with his hat on.
Since criminals often wear hoods and/or hats, why not have a couple of lower level cameras to get better picts of potential criminals faces?
Im surprised myself to the responses here. First Off one of the above posts was right a Criminal will not obey those SILLY rules. Who cares if you have a ball cap on.. Second the post of "wouldnt you like to know who steals your money" is lame because FDIC covers up to 250k, The Bank wont release that much money without a bunch of hassle (ever try to get like 5k out?). Also if you have more than 250k in cash you are investing wrong.
It is about privacy and this Nanny state everyone is expected to just "comply." Cause no trouble obey, resistance is futile.
I would take my business elsewhere, They may not feel your loss, but if more do it just like anything else they will eventually.
I am really considering moving all my stuff from Chase because they have this new rule that I need to show ID to deposit Cash into my account. Its OK since Most runs through my business account and they dont require ID for deposit haha.
As the person above that works at the Bank and says people are asses and you dont make the policy.. Oh Well you are the Face of the Bank and get paid to take the grunt of your employers so if you dont like it you are free to leave as well.
Im just amazed at people on here that say you should just lay down and take it.
Can't say I understand why needing to remove a hat is a big deal / worth making a fuss about
