Well trying to get myself on the road with my motorcycle, so I bought a 2014 Honda grom, used not long ago, so after waiting 2 hours at the Mandeville DMV, I paid 268 dollars to register it, and asked about the endorsment test, they are backed up till mid july! Yea... can't wait that long, so anyone know how bad the Bogalusa andv hammond dmvs are? Would like to be up and running, then get into a safety class soon... can't do the one here in June, have AT those days...

If you take a safety course, you don't have to do the practical test at the DMV. That might get you legal quicker. Also, it's just a good idea. They have bikes there for a low fee.

any msf approved course will be sufficient for the practical portion of the dmv test.

harley actually offers a good one for $250 or so.

I actually took the Harley course because I was 19 at the time and my dad didn't want me waiting another month until the next state course. It just so happened that HD was putting on a course the weekend after I got my bike, so I went with it. I did have a good instructor and it's still an MSF course, so it'll count for the DMV practical and, if your insurance company offers it, a small discount on insurance.

They're gonna look at your bike like an alien space ship, but most likely still be friendly. The women were scared to death of my I4, not really sure why.

The next MSF in Hammond is June's 6th, we'll just so happens that I'll be with the National Guard, the entire week... Also I'm not paying 250 for the Harley course.... I don't have that to spend on that! And the course over in Baton Rouge is just too far... Want to get on the road and take it easy, then when the next MSF rolls around in hammond I'm going to take it.. going to the Bogalusa one in the morning since it's not far from me...

MSF course is great experience for a newbie. Then you just show up to a DMV and take the easy test. Then you have to pay the extra fee everytime so you don't lose it.

Bring your bike, registration, proof of insurance, current DL and helmet, boots and gloves. Take the written exam. At this point, DMV personnel will walk out with you and ask you to ride the bike around the block. Do so without upset (the person will walk back in as you make the first stop sign 150 ft away) and return to the office. Walk in and your place in line will be waiting. They'll retake your pic, so look pretty. Pay the fee and accept your "M" endorsement on your new license. Happy motoring, and don't forget ATGATT!

I had to do a figure 8 in the parking lot..I was a 17 year old, not the biggest, on a zx9. Man was I scared to fall over doing that in a tiny parking lot, no way to pick it up..

The lady at the DMV in crowley told me "you'll have to take the test- is the bike here with you?"

yeah. I rode it here from lafayette.

and yes, a MSF course is a must. Chad Romero is my favorite after taking 4 or 5 in southern LA. I think he has classes in breaux bridge and BR

fyi, the regular "test' is a written exam and a figure 8 in the parking lot. pretty much just a formality.

Got mine in Crowley. Took the written test and made a figure 8 in the parking lot. I was there for 45 minutes max. I never took a class for my endorsement. I also just renewed my license at the Crowley DMV this past week. It was in there for a whopping 10 minutes.

Well sadly I called all the dmvs around the northshore area and they are booked out on the road tests, but I have found a solution, I am waiting to take the written test here at Mandeville, and then there is a driving academy not far from here that charges 40 bucks to do the road test, then after that I'm good... kinda annoying that the dmv is just so damn inefficient that we have to go to 3rd parties for solutions.... imagine health care soon...

Well I'm legal now, ended up going to the dmv in Mandeville and taking the computer test, then going to the driving school place right next to the causeway, squeezed in a driving test (managed to kill it starting it out lol) but did fine driving around the block... then managed to squeeze back into the dmv and the lady remembered me and called me forewarf, got my endorsment now... hoping tommorow is riding weather as I have work soon, and the bike is in the back of the truck...

.. I never took a class for my endorsement...

I wouldn't consider that something to brag about. I've been riding since ~1965, just got around to taking the Harley Riders Edge course in 2007 -- and quickly realized I didn't know as much nor was I as good a rider as I thought! As for the cost, the discount on my insurance reimbursed that pretty quickly.

Not bragging. More or less saying that I wasn't aware that these classes are so popular. I just always thought people read the booklet and took the test. I sold my bike years ago because I didn't really enjoy riding that much, but still keep my endorsement as a just in case.
