    I don't know what ID each restaurant requires, but Louisiana will add "VETERAN" in prominent letters at the base of the photo on your drivier's license. You just have to show your DD214 at DMV and they will issue a new license with the endorsement. I've used that as proof of service a couple of times.

    If you want to do this now, the DMV at Livingston is actually pretty quick and efficient.
