Went with my wife and step-daughter to a concealed carry course in Springfield.
Lock and Load Training -- www.lockload.us
Tab Lobell and Paul Brignac (Paul was the instructor)
Introduced the course as NRA based and having mandatory content.
Started with an intro to firearms. Operation of the difference between single, double action and revolver vs semi auto. The different types of ammo where also covered. Most of this had Power Point screens to go with it.
Different scenarios from law enforcement prospective. Things that he has actually seen and done. Some of it is pretty amusing.
Discussions of *what if*, legal ramifications. The different reasons you might or might not want to pull a gun. The situations that would lead to a clean shoot or would you be in trouble. All off these scenarios had a disclaimer of course because any kind of evidence can change the outcome. He has apparently been on the witness stand a few times. Also where you can and can’t carry.
The shooting portion started with the guns unloaded on the tables and a quick familiarization of locking the slide, and releasing it without using the slide lock. This was a quick intro into clearing a jam. He covered breathing, front sight, trigger pull and target acquisition. We shot a few 6 round magazines at different distances and he introduced a jam for everyone, so we could see how we would handle it. He discussed how stress would play a big role in how your mind and body react.
Anyway if you are around Albany/Springfield, they are definitely an option.
