I am thinking about getting into it this year. I would like to reload them mainly for duck and goose hunting, which I do on average 3-4 times a week. I don't expect to save money from it at all but it seems like a great hobby and maybe I will be able to get better performance from the shells vs. cheap factory loads. Any tips from the experts on where to start and good places for information/reading?
Lyman shotshell reloading manual has the most info, along with several online sites; shotgunworld.com has a very good forum. Powder is still hard to come by.
I've had excellent results with the Lee mold for 1 oz 12 gauge slug. With both the Remington 870 Tactical or Kel Tec KSG, 2 liter water bottles don't stand a chance at 100 yards.
I'm just starting to get into shooting clays. I've thought about saving hulls in case I get more serious about it and start reloading. It seems like lead shot has really gone up in price, though.
Also, what would be a better press for a beginner - MEC 600 jr or Lee load all? These two seem to come up the most on internet searches
I reload 12 & 20 gauge bismuth for ducks and geese and 28 and 16 lead for dove and quail because I can work them up for less than store bought. 12 & 20 Sizemasters, 16 & 28 600jr - all MEC.
