Since the others are eliminated, Marlin 1894 lever paired with a S&W 686 or Ruger SP100/101 both 357. Caliber choice based on widest availability of ammo and reload.

I think the ultimate , or at least a very handy, survival gun would be
    The Chiappa Arms X-Caliber.
It is a 22 Long rifle over a 12 gauge shotgun barrel, included with adapters that allow use of :
    380 acp
    9 mm Luger
    357 mag.
    38 Special
    40 S&W
    44 magnum
    44 Special
    45 acp
    410 bore shotgun
    45 Colt
    20 gauge shotgun

It don't get no more versitial than that!
I believe the X-Caliber and my model 58 in 41 magnum would cover a lot of situations.

I'm with Jack. Mini 14 is very reliable and 223. Hard choice between a bolt and lever. First choice would be a Ruger Scout due to 308 ammo access. Second choice is a Marlin 1895 lever action in 45-70 because I like to change gun fights into artillery battles.

Marlin bolt action -- clip or tube fed -- with stainless barrel, synthetic stock, in .22 Mag. Carry lots of ammo, take down anything reasonable with a good hit, weatherproof, simple and not liable to break.
