During the 1.2 years that I owned it...

...Both front control arms due to rotted bushings.
...Transmission had to come out to fix a leak. It still leaked.
...N23 recall disabled 4WD low and I had to buy a module out of Canada to fix it.
    ...Sunroof plastic track broke.
...Water pump went out (it had gone out only 8K miles before I bought it, as well, per service records...)

The SES light coming on again last night was all I could stand. I lost my **** over that. Got rid of it the next day.

Replaced it with a 2015 Mazda CX5 2.5L AWD Touring. So far VERY pleased. Got it used with 27K on the odo (former rental...I know, I know...but for $22K I couldn't pass it up when they gave me $17K for my 2010 Jeep with 92K miles on it...)

I would love a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited but in addition to this story I know of two other people who basically had lemons. One guy had a Wrangler who, in a year, had it in the shop 4 months and ended up coming to a deal with the dealership and he never looked back. It was a shame because he wanted a Jeep for years before he was finally able to afford one when he had a good job.
Don't get me wrong. I still want one.

So a rental Mazda, really? Good luck with that. Keep the cash on hand for a trans.
All brands have lemons and their own issues.
The only think inwouldnsay excessive in that grand is 2 water pumps in under 100k
Wife has a wrangler unlimited (JKU) with 40k on it, only thing so far is driver side head replaced- faulty design, jeep acknowledged and warranted the head to 150k on all '12 models.
My '98 TJ has right at 200k, had a zj with 170 or so on it and the list goes on.

So leaking transmissions are just normal on a Jeep? No wonder I hated it.

As far as I know, the cx5 doesn't have any known transmission issues except for a few of them that a recall was issued on for the tq converter. Very narrow Vin range and most were fixed before sale.

Projected reliability is better than the crv fwiw.

Nobody ever said "hey, that is a cool Mazda" EVER!
Gotta pay to play. I'll keep my jeeps and doubt I will ever own a Mazda.

I had a Magnum with the 5.7. I loved that car except the ridiculous problems it had while I owned it between 22k and 50k miles. Same with any Jeeps that have been in my family. Fine vehicles when they worked, but they tended to work a lot less than the Fords and Hondas.

We have the same Mazda... But a 2013 w/ 60k miles. Bought it new in summer 2012. Zero issues. Averaging 28 mpg tank to tank. Change oil every 75000. Very nimble handling for a tall vehicle. I had no idea they were used as rentals.

I wish we'd have waited for the 4/cyl diesel engine but overall for 25K bucks, it is well worth the money.

It's a good thing I'm not stressed about being a cool guy. I enjoyed the whole z06 thing a while back. I just want effective reliable economic transportation. This should do it.
