    Interesting topic of discussion with some friends about where we are in this country right now, where would we be if we would have prevented the 9/11 attacks? The Intel was there, it was just either ignored or misunderstood, either way, where would we be today? Would we have had 8 years of Bush? Followed by 8 years of Obama followed by the train wreck that is undoubtedly heading our way in 2016? This came up while sitting around talking politics and scandals as they go hand in hand as we get closer to the 9/11 anniversary

    Better question: Where would we be now if we had nuked Baghdad and whereever in Afghanistan we thought Osama was at the time, plus turned the Bekka valley to glass on about 9/20 live on CNN? It would be horrible but the Muslim extremist would be taking us seriously and there would have been far fewer US deaths. I would also bet there would have been far fewer total Muslim deaths compared to the number killed by invasion. Not to mention cheaper for the US than decades of war. Oh, and as far as world opinion, its not like they like us very much now. And at the time no one would have blamed us...

    A better response to that terrorist act on the folks who supported or sheltered those bastards would have changed our respect level in the world. When I was growing up if some local civil war broke out in some half assed country; the last thing you wanted to mess with was an American citizen because if you did a world of hurt was coming down on you. We were feared and respected at the same time. We need to return to that state of affairs.

    We would have more civil liberties - but the loss is due to the people sitting on their hands in attentive and full of apathy. But I cannot imagine the people would be so cowered to accept the provisions that came rolling down afterwards.
