Smallbore Silhouette Match in Gonzales this Saturday

When: Saturday, August 22, 2015 - Range opens about 8:30 AM

Where: Ascension Parish Sheriff's Range, Gonzales (Across the street from Lamar Dixon)

What: Smallbore rifle silhouette is like competitive plinking. The object is to shoot a steel target off a rail. This is a good introductory video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEk3AulEHac

Equipment needed: Any .22 rifle is fine, preferably with a scope. Also ammo and ear plugs. There is a $5 entry fee.

What distances do the targets stand at?

The chickens are at 40 meters; pigs are 60 meters, turkeys are 77 meters and rams are 100 yards. (Rams are usually 100 meters but we only have 100 yards in Gonzales.)

Yes, there are several monthly club matches around:

On the first Saturday of each month, March - October, there is a Smallbore (22lr) silhouette match at Winnsboro Gun Club in Winnsboro, LA.

On the first Sunday of each month, February - September, there is a lever gun silhouette match in Gonzales.

On the second Sunday of each month, year-round, there is an Air Rifle silhouette match at the BREC Airgun Range in Baton Rouge.

On the third Saturday of each month, year round, there is a Smallbore (22lr) silhouette match at the South Mississippi Gun Association range in Pearlington, MS.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, year round, there is a Smallbore (22lr) silhouette match in Gonzales.

There are also several championship matches in Louisiana:

In February of each year, there is the "Chicken Coop Shoot" Indoor air rifle silhouette regional championship in Jonesboro, LA.

In March of each year, the NRA Air Rifle Silhouette National Championships are held in Baton Rouge.

In June of each year, the LAPUA Winnsboro Open air rifle and smallbore silhouette Regional Championships are held in Winnsboro, LA.

Usually in August of each year, the Smallbore Silhouette state championship is held in Gonzales.

In October of each year, the Highpower silhouette state championship is held in Zwolle, LA.

In December of each year, the lever gun silhouette state championship is held in Gonzales.

Louisiana is a great place to be a silhouette shooter!

Yep. Fourth Saturday of every month. Except March, the fourth weekend of March is the state championship this year.

The gates open about 8:30. We are usually done by 1:30 - depending on how many shooters we have.
