Anybody hear about CMP 1911s? Bunch of sites are reporting it. I wasn't sure if I believe it yet.

1911's are everywhere . It's not like you're going to be able to buy these dirt cheap . CMP Garands are a pretty good deal but I don't see this as being anything special . IF it even comes to fruition .

‘‘(h) AUTHORIZED TRANSFERS.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the
Secretary may transfer to the corporation, in accordance with the
procedure prescribed in this subchapter, surplus caliber .45 M1911/
M1911A1 pistols and spare parts and related accessories for those
pistols that, on the date of the enactment of this subsection, are
under the control of the Secretary and are surplus to the require-
ments of the Department of the Army, and such material as may
be recovered by the Secretary pursuant to section 40728A(a) of
this title. The Secretary shall determine a reasonable schedule
for the transfer of such surplus pistols.
‘‘(2) The Secretary may not transfer more than 10,000 surplus
caliber .45 M1911/M1911A1 pistols to the corporation during any
year and may only transfer such pistols as long as pistols described
in paragraph (1) remain available for transfer.’’.

The word may is the sticking point in all of that.
Just because they may do it, doesn't mean they will.
I wouldn't hold my breath with this administration.

They may not "remain available for transfer" that long.
The Syrian rebels may need more arms soon.

The provision was in the first Defense bill that he vetoed, and stayed in the second bill that he signed. It will probably take a couple of years for the CMP to receive and inspect the pistols, ant they will have to be delivered through your local FFL instead of FedEx.

No telling how many tens/hundreds of thousands of 1911s have been cut-up by Captain Crunch and scrapped over the last few decades, so not sure how many are available for transfer to the CMP.

Good point - especially with Russia hitting all manner of convoys coming out of Turkey...

I would venture to guess that the allure of the “Military Issue 1911” far overshadows the reality of a well-worn, simplistic (rudimentary non-adjustable sights, no ported slide, no beavertail, no bump on the grip safety, harsh trigger, loose slide, generally rough fit & finish) firearm made with 1930’s – 1940’s technology that won’t hit the broad side of a barn if you were standing inside it.

Granted there are a few jewels out there but most are probably not worth what a similar price would get for you on the retail market.

Having said all that, I LOVE my CMP M1 Garand…

If anyone else gets the CMP Emails the latest one was hilarious.

"We do not have any more information about 1911s. Please stop calling us. Please stop emailing us. We are overwhelmed."

Yeah, their email was good. The better examples they receive based on condition and rarity are almost certain to be released through the CMP auction site and will likely go for top dollar. The insidious thing about the CMP is it's just like crackerjacks. You never know what you're going to get when you order, but it's bound to be interesting whatever they send you. That's what keeps me going back. Not sure 1911s will do the same thing for me though. I'm more into long arms.

Wonder if you'll be able to pick through a rack at one of their stores like you do with M1s. I have a 1903 mark 1, M1 and a carbine, all hand picked from the racks at Perry.
