Threw together a budget build. I wanted to attempt a replica M16A1. Sure all the parts combination may not be entirely era correct but I like it. My buddy works at a pipeyard so we blasted the barrel and phosphated it.

    Specs:

    Upper
    -replica 3 prong flash hider
-original 20" FN M16 replacement barrel 1/12 twist
-vintage milsurp handguards and slip ring
-Brownells A1 complete upper(NDS) with rear sight assembly from Windham.
    -colt bcg
    -sig charging handle

    Lower

    -Anderson lower
-vintage buttstock,a1 grip, and silent sling
    -joe bobs lpk
    -generic rifle buffer and spring

    In the blast cabinet.

Pictures only pick up so much detail. Looks better in person.

Love it. Been wanting to do one myself...

Same here, a project for a relative who got a Purple Heart in Vietnam.
But I'm trying to find a Colt lower to make it as authentic as possible.
Seems those are as rare as unicorns.

M16's got a few soldiers killed in 'Nam. I liked the M14 and M60. Some guys carried a Thompson and some preferred a shotgun. Back then, we could carry whatever we wanted.

I couldn't tell from the photos, but were you able to find the shorter buttstock with the hard rubber buttplate (no trapdoor)?
