What has the government shutdown done to processing times?

I called today to check on a Form 4 and had a quick chat with the person who answered. She stated due to the government shutdown, they were operating on a contingency plan and were performing only essential government functions. When I asked her if it was save to reason processing Form 4's didn't fall under essential functions, she told me I was correct. She said there were no forms being processed at this time.

Yes, Form 2s and Form 5s are currently the only forms being approved. Examiners (who approve forms) are furloughed.

However, research assistants (contractors) are still at work and they are still taking submissions and forms are being processed in the order in which they are received so that examiners can approve them when they return from furlough. As always, the sooner you get your form in, the sooner you get it back.

That's what I thought when I purchased my last 2. I have been waiting on the FBI background check for months.

Some people take longer to clear than others due to someone with their name having a criminal background and they have to distinguish the names or determine whether the charges and final disposition make them prohibited. And also some examiners are faster than others.

In the last six months the slowest approval I have seen was just over eighteen months and the fastest was just over three. The vast majority we have seen fall in the six to eight month range.

This is not my first one and you would think that their records would show that information. There I go, using logic for a government worker.

I could not agree with you more my friend. They could be far more efficient than they are. Unfortunately that is not their goal.

I know it is hard to believe but I am happier than you all when stamps come in. I haven’t counted recently but I bet we have well over 500 cans in NFA jail waiting approval, perhaps as many as 1000. That’s a lot of damn cans to store.

How about this for efficiency. I have 3 in jail right now, one at 8 months, one at 6 months, and one at 4 months. They all have the same application except for the NFA item and the seller. Once the first one clears, they could do a search for the buyer, see if they all match, then approve all 3. Any time they spend looking at all 3 at one time has to be less than the time spent looking at 3 of them individually.

Here you gents go again trying to apply pure logic to a .Gov ran program when you know full well No-one has worked on the process since before Christmas....

How about a simple 4473 form,Pay your coin and walk out with can in hand?

From your fingers to God’s ear, my friend. That is how it should be.

Was going to add a 30 calber but with the shut down it may be 2 years now before I get it:D

I don’t think it will be that long. If the shutdown lasts past March then welfare and food stamps won’t be funded at which point **** will get very real, very quick. The Dems don’t want that.

I’m at SHOT this week guys. Feel free to hit me up on my FB or IG @meplatgroup to see my adventures or if you want me to check something out specific for you.

Well there you go! Sooner now then later, The US should split into 5 sections, The far west coast will be a Liberal Meca!

Except liberals cannot live without conservatives saving their butt's.

As the late, great Margaret Thatcher said, “The problem with socialism is that, at some point, you run out of other people’s money.”
