I wonder if that was simply a store choice to move some this weekend. They probably get tired of dragging them out of the back constantly.

I met an Academy Regional Manager out of TX at the Academy on Airline Hwy here in Baton Rouge very shortly after that latest mass shooting and had a pretty frank discussion with him.

He explained to me that they never intend or intended to stop selling the AR's, but the decision to keep them in the safe until things calmed down was an attempt to appease the anti-sporting rifle crowd. Pulling them from display was an attempt to get them of the spotlight.

The guy's name is Gabe. Seemed like a solid guy though and a very strong proponent of the hobby and sport we love. I'll see if I can get him to jump in with further explanation.

Academy will not see any more of my business no matter what they place on the shelves.

I went to the one in Shreveport last week. As I was over that way doing an accident reconstruction, I had on my shoulder holster. I walked in the door and a "greeter" saw I was armed and stopped me. He asked where I was going (what department) and I told him I was going to buy some ammo. He called the dept and told them he was walking an armed man to that dept and wanted them to have a heads up. I got escorted to the ammo counter and two young guys stayed with me while I made my purchase and then saw me out the door.

That kind of treatment from a place that sells guns and ammo does not sit well with me'

The wife and I bought a gun yesterday from Academy. There was another couple buying one at the same time. When the clerk came out with the gun for the other guy, he took the ammo the guy was buying with his gun and put it behind the counter. They wouldn't show him the gun with ammo on the counter.

About 35 years ago at the Howards department store in Thibodaux, a guy went in to look at a gun. He asked what bullets it takes, and the clerk retrieved a box. The customer loaded the gun and shot himself.
