Any one ever seen this? A Remington 514 with a B26 date code and a stamped serial number on the barrel. Also stamped into the butt stock these words, 15 rnds under butt. Three holes under the butt cover with 15 cartridges wrapped in paper. They seen to be quite old. It has the same serial number under the butt cover as well. Can't seem to find any info on this on the Internet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The code is a dead end as well.

    Great little .22.
Seems that someone has customized yours with ammo storage in the stock.
Wondering how the buttstock cover is held in place to access the rounds.
    Pictures appreciated.

I have two Remington 514 rifles and neither has the butt plate you describe. I can't offer any info or answer to your question.

No way to access apart from removing screws. Any thoughts on the date code.
Thought I had uploaded butt stock but instead got the date code. This doesn't appear to be something r
That "bubba" did, as the numbers behind
The butt cover are stamped as well and match. The cartridges in the stock don't appear to have ever been removed.

To me, it looks like the original owner placed some ammo in the buttstock.
    Just in case.
He took the time out to drill the stock so he could fit ammo in there.
Access was not a priority, just the ability to use the rifle if need be.

Any thoughts on why they might have stamped the message on the butt stock or any ideas on the date code that seems to be unlisted on the web. It should be letters and not numbers?
Why stamp matching 5 digit serial numbers on a rifle that did'nt have serial numbers?
    Just puzzled.

Thanks for the feed back. I took it apart and did find where it was presented to and individual in 1981. Really nice job of customization even if not what you would call user friendly. Rifle looks and functions well. The date code still confounds but a great rifle.

Only guess I have is that the numbers are the last 5 digits of the owner's social security number.
Not overly uncommon (although last 4 is standard) on older firearms without serial numbers.

Survival rifle , in case of atomic bomb attack with message so anyone finding it would know of extra ammo ? I would have stamped it on there so I wouldn't forget where I put it !
Lots of bomb shelters were installed in those days , a 22 cal. survival rifle would have been useful .
    Just my guess....Gary
