Yeah, after you shoot some, you may decide against the 1911 platform all together or you may end up with several. I have owned a few since buying my first 1911 and now only have a couple, an old Norinco and a Ruger SR1911 commander size. After over a hundred years of production, the 1911 platform stands the test of time to say the least.

Red Leader, if you ever get in the Lake Charles area, I go there pretty often to shoot with another 1911 fanatic. Might be able to let you try out a good variety of guns, sizes, and calibers. We usually have some 45ACP (of course), 9mm, 10mm, and (my fav) 38 Super, 5" officer, and Commander size.

I love my Kimber tactical entry II in a blackhawk! Get a 1911 and you'll love it. My Kimber is tight and right!

Kimber Pro Carry II can be had for less than $700. I love mine.

SIG TACOPS is a decent choice for carry (they are constructed of stainless steel, come with a decent set of features and are decently priced

My co-worker got a (what I hope is the bottom end) RIA for Christmas. I was checking it out and it seems well made, and has a decent fit & finish, but is lacking A LOT IMO. No stippling anywhere, plain grips, and black sights (indented but no dots painted in?). I wouldn't be happy with it and would pay more for more features. I love the night sites on mine.

STI also makes some very nice 1911's. Their entry level Spartan is a great gun. I own a Trojan and it's by far one of my favorite guns I have owned a Dan Wesson and a Wilson.

I guess i have 4 of the 1911's My 70's Colt is nice, but the newer ones not as well made. The 2 Kimber's I have are nice! Both are also full size Raptors one in 9mm and one in 45acp The Kimber's have the same quality Colt used to have back when. The 3" Ultra Crimson Carry 45 is also well made! They make a fine gun for the $, as fit and finish is above what the cost is.
I guess i have 5 if ya want to could my 1st gen Colt Mustang 380

Was a display gun, with a few scratches on flats so I sanded / polished the flats. More blingy but was cheap gun and i have the background in that type of work. The stock finish on the same gun i have in 45 is way nice.
My old 1911 22lr ACE dad got me at age 17

And the Mustang next to a larger gun. Mustang is easier to carry...
