That has been my experience as well. Sad, because the actual range is decent from what I remember.
From your location take the trip to FTS in larose. Much better, you will enjoy
NO.
But try FTS in Larose, metal out to 930 yards; from kenner aprox 50 minutes
Or Avondale NOLATAC metal out to 1300 yards; from kenner aprox 30 minutes

It is nice but uncovered at the 200 yard range, gets hot, bring water and umbrella.
Or you can try FTS in larose. Steel to 930, completely covered and very very nice. Depending on where on the westbank you live, FTS may be 15 minute more drive for you but much nicer.
