The other day that I was setting my primers in, each round I did I kind of cringed a bit halfway preparing for the primer to go off.

In all my years, and tens of thousands of cartridges loaded, I've never had this happen.

I have set my stool on a primer, and had it go off. It make a permanent mark in my wood floor, a not so permanent mark in my underwear, and caused my ears to ring. IIRC it was a CCI Small Rifle Magnum I use for loading .30 Carbine.

Haven't had a primer go off since Dad & I graduated from the Lee Loader (wack-a-matic) to a press maybe 45 years ago. Still, wear eye protection. I've been wearing glasses since second grade, so I have eye protection getting out of bed!

Do you buy new brass or do you tend to just collect brass you find at the range to reload?

Just curious what most of you guys do.

I used to buy brass. I then developed a little stock of it. Now, it's range pick-ups unless it's something special.

Once Fired brass is my thing. Keep track of the batches on the number of firings. The more firings, the more scrutiny of the cases, ie. split necks, nicked rims and such. just my .02.

Yeah, I've had a whole primer tube, 100 primers blow up once. Scared the crap out of me, but aside from the aluminum tube, no damage. learning experience.
