So on his way out, Obama apparently had this law put in place that would put disabled SS recipients in a classification so that they wouldn't receive clearance to purchase a gun. Wow, just wow. Why would this law even exist? I mean if anyone might require a firearm to protect themselves from a potential attacker, it would be a disabled and/or elderly person, right? And who is least likely to be a criminal with a gun? Yeah, a disabled and/or elderly person, seems to me. So what was the purpose of this law?

Anyway, the good news is so far congress is rejecting it, the House voted to repeal it, and now the Senate has to vote so it can go to Trump to be signed. But this law should never have even been put in place. Boggles my mind.

Yeah, glad it's getting repealed, but I'd never heard anything about it before. It's like a law that was getting implemented with no coverage. Makes me wonder what else was in the works we didn't know about?

I don't know why but I remember it being covered by the talking heads. Briefly but covered. I swear it feels like an eternity ago. Good to know they are giving the rights to my Granny.

Yeah, it's like the Democrats wanted to take the guns away from granny, but they don't want to do anything about the gang violence. It may be interesting to see what happens with Trump and Chicago.

It only applied to those who were declared mentally disabled and were deemed incompetent to handle their own affairs. A misguided effort to restrict gun purchases by "crazy" people. One of the many overreaching Obama actions that need to be reversed.

Since I am a SS recipient, when it was announced I paid close attention to it. And from what was written in all the articles it would take away the gun rights to all that had anyone handling the recipients financial affairs. In other words, say the mother or grandmother had a bad habit of taking part in the home shopping network and spent too much. The kids come in and use the courts and take over her finances to put a stop to it. Well, there goes her gun rights, but she is not mentally incompetent. Also the same with the father or grandfather that like to spend on the ponies at the track or down at the casino and his kids did the same. There goes his rights and he is not incompetent either. It was or is a broad reaching law designed to do what they intended. To exclude as many as possible from owning guns under the premise of safety. I am thankful this is going to be done away with.

That was my understanding as well I was pretty interested in it as well because in my line of work I've seen how many elderly people need a trusted family member, friend or even a professional to handle all the business affairs and to go to doctor visits with them.
