Matherne's. I've picked up a few bottles there when I've stayed downtown on business. Also, Streube's has a nice selection behind the bar. Someone should organize a bourbon meet/greet in BR.

If you are looking for someplace for great cocktails, Doe's Eat Place and George Krause are the only names you need know, go see him, he knows his stuff behind a bar.

Second time someone mentioned Doe's in two days. Guess I have to take the wife over this weekend.

Finally got around to grabbing a bottle of Eagle Rare today. Store pick barrel AND only $28. Best price I've seen for Rare Eagle.

To the OP, if you're in the Northshore area, try Acquistapace's grocery store. They have an incredible selection of whiskeys. One of my favorites is TX. Made in Texas (of course) but don't let that stop you. Incredibly smooth. Ditto on the Eagle Rare.

I cant comment on stores in Baton Rouge but I'll comment on whiskey. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON the La1 Whiskey made in Thibodaux, It is horrible for a $50 bottle.

I've seen a few folks mention TX Whiskey, while I haven't had that one yet it reminded me of another Texas whiskey that's worth a try. Rebecca Creek from San Antonio makes a great bottle, should be available at Calandros, Hokus Pokus, etc.

As a bourbon guy, I found any of the attached bourbons are great. Calandros on Perkins road also has a great selection on bourbons, as well as the old " Cuban" on Perkins Rd. I found Either of these stores often has bourbons that aren't even readily available in Kentucky, and usually for $5-$10 cheaper than you can get it there.

The Jeffersons line are a great sip in the $50 range, as well as of course Blantons which has been harder to come by but when you do find it it's is usually around $52-$54. Eagle Rare is excellent for the price as well as Angels Envy.

I honestly have never tried the Mitchers but I hear good things.

Always remember this, if all else fails, drink Old Charter, it's good for you!

I agree Bin Q is my go to. First place I found Four Roses. I also went there to get a keg filled, and he was cool enough to call around places to find this for me. That earned my business!

Hokus Pokus in Prairieville/Dutchtown is a good spot as well. Post sober next time, you missed an O in Bourbon twice! lol.

I love Bourbon's, Ryes, and Irish Whiskies, not big on Scotch except for the Speyside stuff, no Islay for me. For the money, Elijah Craig is a crazy value. I'm also a big fan of High West's various blends, they aren't for the purist, but they do some unique stuff that comes out well. Anything out of the Buffalo Trace distillery is good. I prefer higher rye to wheat, it all is up to your palate.

My go-to mixing whiskey is actually Benchmark. It's cheap as hell and mixes well with anything, it's much smoother than it's price suggests.
+1 on the benchmark. Lol. My fav is Elmer t lee
