My personal hybrid cleared last week, so it was time to setup my new hog slayer. The Thermal will be sitting in top of this tonight for opening of night season.

Thanks to Brett at Action Arms in Sulphur for getting the SBL cut down and threaded.

Fine looking rig!! I wanted a SBL bad but couldn't justify it VS the wall mart $200 deal. I want to chip and thread mine. Mind telling me (pm if you want) what it set you back to have the work done?

Almost there, this was a gbl, now got the grey laminit on there, just don't really want to thread it cause it's a Marlin 1895 gbl "jm"... Pretty rare, but I dont plan on getting rid of it, so I guess value doesn't mean anything, I did get one of my 1895gs threaded, and that thing is nice!!!!

what load are you planning on running?

the guys at castboolits had a .459/500gr wfn(sledge hammer) mould group buy a few years ago. id imagine a hard cast boolit like that would be ideal for subsonic hog.

also for heavy boolits and almost no flash try IMR 7383.

I broke down and got a new Trapper to thread and put a mid west rail on it. Sending to get threads soon for my hybrid.

Did you direct thread or use a ASR brake?

Is there any reason a ASR brake wouldn’t work? They have a .46cal version. Seems it should be fine?

I love the forend. It’s why I got the Trapper...that and the threading/hybrid. It come from Midwest industries. Look on there site by gun and you will see it under marlin.

First time looking through those those kind of sights....looks nice...but I put a leupold vx-freedom 2-7x33 on top. Not sure what I’ll do with those sights...maybe on my other 1895 that’s blued.

Only reason I didn't go asr was because when I was looking at them all they had was 11/16x64 thread option....its an odd ball thread size for the .46 diameter asr mount to fit but now I see they have the 5/8x24 not a bad option... I do have the asr for both of my hybrids for putting them on and off of my 2 scorpions and 308 bolt guns , so wouldn't be bad to look into them again exspecially when silencerco has they 1/2 off sales

Ahh I did not know that it wasn’t always a option. When I looked reciently I saw it and thought that should work out perfect. I run the hybrid on a few other asr’s.

I’m curious how a muzzle brake would tame a 45/70.

Subsonic 45/70 suppressed really does the job… expansion to +2” or more, and the impact is louder than the shot … prob well over 20+ hogs and deer I have killed and this is the first one I recovered… all other have had typical 3 blade broadhead blood trails and exit holes and have never ran more than 40yrds, all act like they are hit with a super sharp and quiet bow/arrow combo
