Just for fun at the range I started to reload subsonic .308 rounds.

Thought I'd share with you fellas. It was a fun shoot!

Here is my data. Loaded with 10grains of trailboss

I use basically the same load with hornady 220gr interlock sp, you can catch them on sale somtimes for around $24 per 100. I have a 1:10 twist and is super quiet with my omega 30, and actually very accurate at 100 yards... Gotta love trail boss, that's my #1 go to for subsoincs in my .308,45-70,.44 mag even though tight group works well also

I will try the 220 next time. I have a 1:10 twist too. How much trail boss are you using?

im pretty sure I settled on 12 gr of trail boss, i will have the check my load book when i get home.. I worked up from 10gr to 12.5gr, and i think 2 of the 10 loaded at 12.5 went super sonic so i backed them back down.. and i could have just been my crimp or bullet dept that i didn't get just right... i also had great luck with hornady 170gr flat nose (30-30) bullets from 9gr-10gr of trail boss.... with the 220gr i was able to use my 4-16 monarch mil dot and windage was dead on at 100 yards of supersonic zero just on the second mil-dot down was right on. i was getting around a 1-2" group at 100 yards with my subsonics...

Cool. I was afraid that 10 grains may cause a squib on 220 since it was rated as a minimum for 180 grain.

now i have a 20" 1:10 and to my supprise with all the subsonic loads i loaded i haven't had ANY KEYHOLES... i know every gun is diff so just try them without your can just to make sure you wont get any baffle strikes... and like i said the 170gr and 220gr all had an average group no more that 3"... so i had no keyholes and no fliers to suggest any un stable rounds

might be wrong also but you can see i like to use a heavy crimp on all my rounds.... some people prefer no crimp on subsonic, so that could make a diff in going supersonic and stability also

I currently don't crimp. What I've read is it's generally not done for bolt action rounds

What type of primers are you using?

i guess the main reason i crimp is to keep it consitiant, if i wanna shoot them in my ar10 suppressed and just cycle the bolt i can, no need to adjust the powder ect, i just know it will work in all my .308's

So I went with 208 grain because I couldn't find the 220 round nose.
