I will be living in NYC over the summer and am trying to figure out if I can carry a knife or not. My Google-fu is giving contradictory results. Anyone have any experience with their dumb laws and some insight?

If it sounds logical then do the opposite and you should be good in NY. I carried a kershaw 3.25" folder and was never stopped.

As for why - I'll be working on Wall St for awhile :]

Good deal, congrats. NYC isn't that bad. Crime statistics per capita, it is much much safer than BR or NO. I have two nieces (both PhDs) who work and live there. Liberal mindset...for sure. But so many things to do, and some pretty good food too (because of the cultural diversity).
And the very heart of American banking and investments. I like to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there permanently for sure. Def not firearms friendly.
