I think the idea was to make the bore axis high enough so you can shoot from the hip and be able to aim down the sights at the same time.

I just bought one online for $499. I'm a huge fan of my old XD-M and wanted a CCW with a manual safety. I have a Sig P238 but was looking for something a little different. I'm wondering the same thing about a XD-E .45.
