    I've gone through a bunch of different handgun styles over the years, but I keep coming back to the platform I started with when I was young.

    The first gun I owned was one I bought myself on my 21st birthday - a Colt MKIV Series 70 in .38 Super.

    It was stolen from an apartment I was living in about four years after I bought it. It took me 30 years to replace it.

    Now I have a couple.

    I like 1911's but haven't really shot many lately. I own a springfield TRP. Sold off a loaded champion, range officer, and dan wesson valor.

    I resisted getting a 1911 for years, but a cheap Taurus changed my mind. I replaced it with a Remington R1, and I replaced that with an Ed Brown. The Brown is a total delight to shoot, and almost boringly accurate.

    A 1911 will never be my only gun, but I'll have that Ed Brown until I'm pushing daisies.

    I had an STI Trojan 9mm that didn't eat winchester white box worth a damn so I traded it off. Regret that as prices on them have soared. Last year I picked up a Springfield Range Officer Operator for myself and a Colt Competition for my wife, both are great shooters and aren't going anywhere. I enjoy and appreciate them but since I can't carry them for work they are more of a toy than an addiction.

    I have always loved the 1911 platform.
    I only have three. An Auto Ordinance 1911-A1 , a Colt 1911 and PSA 1911 that I need to finish building .
    I believe that every man should have one in his collection.

    IMG_0055.jpgIMG_0023.JPGIMG_0126.jpgI have more of the 1911 platform pistols than all others in my collection.
    Several Colts and a Wilson. Have to admit the STI 2011 is lots of fun to shoot.

    I started with an Argentine Colt many years ago. I later bought a Springfield Loaded. Love that gun!

    I have a 1911 Colt Series 70 Service Model Ace Dad git me when I was 17 From F&B Supply on Clearview Parkway. The Owner Bruce let me do installments As I was little short and they just had a few left. {Layaway}
    He was such a great guy for doing so since they did not do that.
    I saw him a few times at the counter at Shooters Club where he works now.
    I told him I still had it, and how much it meant that he did that.
    I shot that gun with Target 22 as a kid so much. But is still sweet. Had a a 70's Colt NOS slide fitted to it, I grabbed out the old Shot gun News for 80 bucks shipped. Along with a new Government Barrel. And new springs and bushing fitted. With a Trigger Job and Beaver tail. Barrel ramped so would feed wad cutters and Semi Wads. So nothing that can not be switched back
    So I did it backwards.
    Then in 90 or so grabbed a one year old mint Colt Mustang from Lock Stock and Barrel {Glen and Gary on Airline and Roosevelt}
    Finally got a dedicated 1911 in 45ACP And picked up a Kimber Raptor in Stainless Steel, and one in 9mm just like it. Sanded / Polished the flats on one to a high shine.
    Oh and Grabbed a Kimber 3" 45acp 2 tone with Crimson Trace

    I do not have pics of them yet but had someone make target grips! And used a 90 grain cast bullet, with a low power load of Red Dot as well as WW231 and shot well.

    love the 1911's!!! I got the Kimber tle2-rl and has been a great gun.. I am starting to get into the dan wessons... I have a CCO dan Wesson which is a great carry gun, very comfortable. I had guardian in 9mm and traded it :wtc: but my ultimate goal is to find a guardian in 45acp... I just don't shoot 9mm that much and would rather a 45 guardian...

    And with this post, I think I have hit the "magic ten" post requirement to become official!

    You are a wise man migrating towards the Dan Wesson 1911's I have yet to score a Guardian in 9mm, but I have been lucky enough to give a .38 Super and .45 ACP Guardian's a new home . . . . .

    I have always wanted a Colt 1911 in 38 special {called a Mid-Range by Colt}
    Not a 38 Super shoots only Wad Cutters target grade ones

    Never heard of or was ever aware of those. I am however aware of the S&W 52 that shoots that same 38 special wadcutter load. Years back while going through my 38special brass, I found 5-6 of the rimless 38special wadcutter brass mixed in with the rest. Put them aside and saved for their uniqueness.

    The TRP is on my "lust list."

    Another 1911 I am hoping to find someday is an Argentinian Sistema DGFM-(FMAP).

    You should get one, Main reason I sold my Dan Wesson Valor, was b/c I loved how aggressive the TRP was. The checkering makes the gun stick to your hand like glue.
